Mental Health Addiction Service

The Mental Health Addiction Service is a nurse led, outpatient counselling service for adults over 18 years of age who are concerned about their use of alcohol, prescribed drugs, over the counter drugs or gambling.

People referred also have mental health difficulties. People generally attend an individual appointment (weekly initially), to determine what concerns / difficulties they have and what they wish to do about it. 

The service offers:

  • Alcohol / drug / gambling information
  • Ways of stopping (Abstinence) or reducing usage (controlled use or harm reduction)
  • Coping strategies
  • Relapse prevention
  • Skills training – anxiety management, anger management, etc
  • Information on other services

The service does not provide::

  • Residential (in-patient) treatment
  • detoxification

Accessing the service: 

  • Referral through local mental health teams/clinics only 
  • Waiting list in operation
